KARACHI, March 21: Various parts of the city either went dry or received scant water supply on the third consecutive day on Thursday in Muharram.
The hard-hit areas included different sectors of North Karachi, Orangi, Baldia, Clifton’s Block 2, several blocks of Federal B’ Area, North Nazimabad, Old Golimar, Keamari, parts of Old City area and deficient pockets of Lyari.
As usual, private tankers did a roaring business, charging exorbitant rates from residents of water-starved localities.
Residents of the affected areas said in the absence of water they had no choice either to buy private tankers at high rates or to consume sub-soil unhygienic water.
The city’s water supply situation was badly affected on Tuesday when a major power breakdown occurred at Dhabeji.
