Strike against water shortage

KHAIRPUR, March 19: A complete strike was observed on Tuesday in Saghayoon town, Khairpur District, against an acute shortage of water in Kharal, Gaknao, Tekno, Mehnai, and Siyal minors.

Representatives of the growers said that sand could be seen in the above minors instead of water. There was no water even for cattle, while crops had been completely destroyed.

They said that both government and private water tube wells could not be operated due to load-shedding in Saghyoon and its surrounding areas.

DELEGATION: A delegation of artistes met the District Nazim, Ms Nafeesa Shah, and apprised her about the problems being faced by them.

They were led by the chairman, All Sindh Sangeetkar Association, Abdul Ghafoor Soomro. It was decided to establish a musical academy in the district for the promotion of music.

BOYCOTT: Several teachers boycotted classes on Tuesday to protest against the tapedar of deh Pata, Kotdiji Taluka, who had locked up a teacher, Akhtar Hussain.

They were led by the general secretary of the Primary Teachers Association.

The teachers said that Mr Akhtar was on duty when he was picked up from the Sarai Piyaroo Khan high school. They also held a sit in outside the press club.
