TOBA TEK SINGH, March 19: A large number of lawyers, retired army officers and educationists have applied for four independent seats of district public safety commission which will be finalized by the Punjab governor.

District and sessions judge Muhammad Akram Zaki will interview the applicants on March 21 and 22 in the district council rest house along with two selection committee members appointed by the governor.

The selection committee will short list eight people and send their names to the Punjab governor who will select four of them for appointment on the basis of reports of various intelligence agencies.

The first 40 applicants have been directed to appear for interview on March 21 and the remaining on March 22.

HOUSE BURGLED: Robbers injured a man and his brother during a dacoity in Rajana Chak 290-GB on Tuesday night.

The dacoits forced their entry into the house of Dr Mushtaq Ahmad after midnight. They injured Dr Mushtaq and his brother when they put up resistance.

The dacoits escaped with cash, gold jewellery and other valuables worth more than Rs300,000.

BAN ON ULEMA: The Punjab government has imposed ban on 22 ulema of the district with immediate effect.

They include, Punjab SSP (banned) president Maulana Muhammad Ahmad Ludhianvi, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Fazalur Rehman) leader Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Rabbani, Majlis Tahaffuz Khatme Nabuwat general secretary Maulana Muhammad Abdullah Ludhianvi, Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadeeth district amir Mufti Muhammad Aslam, Sahibzada Burq Toheedi and Maulana Abdul Rahim Zahid of Kamalia.
