ISLAMABAD, March 19: The terrorist who attacked a church in the capital with hand grenades could had been among the worshippers and may had escaped with panicked people after the attack, a source close to the investigation indicated.
Investigators have found no evidence that any outsider had entered the church as nobody was seen by the policeman guarding the church. The Diplomatic Enclave had been heavily guarded by the troops and police since Sept 11.
A source close to the investigation also indicated that six persons, including three of the injured, were being interrogated by the police.
A student of the International Islamic University has also been taken into custody by the police for questioning, the source said.
Meanwhile, the police have registered an FIR of the incident on the complaint of the church manger, David Sharafi.
He said in his complaint that about 150 worshippers, including women and children, were taking part in Sunday prayer service in the church when a man, who seemed to be in his 20s, carrying two hand grenades, entered the church and hurled the grenades on the worshippers, which left two persons dead on the spot and caused injuries to several others.
The joint investigating team, assisted by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation officials, visited the scene and shared some information regarding the attack.
Islamabad police chief Nasir Khan Durrani said that police had got some important leads in the case, but he denied any arrest.
The body of an unidentified man has not been claimed so far. “It can not be ruled out whether it was a suicide mission,” the official said.
