ISLAMABAD, March 18: Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) plans to connect about 800 cities and towns of the country with internet facility by June 2002.

As many as 558 cities and towns have already been connected with the internet so far, PTCL sources said here Monday.

The purpose of the expansion is to facilitate people in way that they could benefit from the IT revolution launched by the government.

The PTCL has also established 155 MBits optical fibre link between Arifwala-Qabula-Bahawalnagar-Chistian. About 94km optical fibre cable has been laid providing state-of-the-art fibre optic technology to these areas. The project has been completed at a cost of Rs37.44 million.

The link would provide immense opportunities of bandwidth utilization in Qabula, Bahawalnagar and surrounding areas.—APP
