HYDERABAD, March 18: Additional Attorney General (Sindh) Masood A. Noorani on Tuesday sougth time to file comments in a constitutional petition challenging the arrest of Ms Zainab, wife of Ghulam Shabbir, in a dacoit-harbouring case by the Bhittai Nagar police station as the petitioner claimed police harassment.
Advocate Amjad Sehto filed the petition on behalf of Ms Zainab against SHO Aijaz Tareen and ASI Khalil-ur-Rehman Shah of the Bhittai Nagar police station.
The lawyer claimed that on Feb 26 at 5:30pm the respondent police officials had entered the house of his client and taken her away, detaining her in the lockup of the police station.
He said that during detention of the petitioner the SHO did not produce her before the magistrate for obtaining remand from the relevant court of law.
He argued that the petitioner’s daughter, Najma, sent telegrams to the AIG, Police, Hyderabad Region, Sessions Judge Hyderabad, and Senior High Court Judge at the Hyderabad circuit bench.
He maintained that on March 1 the ASI lodged a case under section 216-A PPC (abetment) thereby showing the arrest of his client only to cover their own illegal act.
He said that the next day the ASI produced the petitioner before the court of jurisdiction and the petitioner was released on the same day after submitting surety in the bailable offence.
He told the court that on March 4 the SHO again raided the house and wanted to arrest the petitioner with ulterior motives but she was not there.
He said that the SHO threatened the petitioner’s daughter to ensure production of her mother at the police station otherwise he would implicate her in another criminal case.
He said that the life of the petitioner was in grave danger and prayed the court to submit a list of cases pending against the petitioner.
STA: The STA Court Judge, Hyderabad, on Tuesday granted bail to Zafar Meerani, the co-accused of Asif Ali Zardari, in the double murder case of Alam Baluch, former federal secretary, and his gunman, Imdad Baluch, for a sum of Rs500,000 lacs.
