KARACHI, March 18: The City Council on Monday unanimously adopted a resolution condemning the grenade attack in a church at Islamabad on Sunday.
The house, which met with the Naib Nazim, Tariq Hasan, in the chair, expressing sympathies with the bereaved families, demanded of the government to immediately arrest the terrorists who killed innocent persons and give them exemplary punishment.
The Council also demanded of the government to make special arrangements at mosques, Imambargahs and churches in Karachi to prevent such acts here.
The Chairman of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement, Afaq Ahmed, has condemned the attack on a church in Islamabad on Sunday, add agencies.
In a statement, he demanded of the government to take stringent action against those responsible for this heinous crime in which five persons had been killed.
He said a neighbouring country might have been involved in the attack to divert the attention of the international community from the communal riots there.
The President of the Catholic Association, Herbert Fernandes, condemned the act of terrorism in which five persons had been killed and 40 injured in the Protestant International Church in Islamabad, a press release said.
He said the abominable act was aimed at sabotaging Pakistan’s efforts to combat terrorism.
He offered condolences to the bereaved families. He appealed to President Pervez Musharraf to arrest the culprits at the earliest.
The Indus Peace and Spiritual Society condemned the attack on a church in Islamabad and killing of five worshippers.
In a statement, the global coordinator of the IPPS, Dr Anwar Zia Ahmed, said attack on places of worship of any religion deserved to be widely condemned. He demanded the arrest of the culprits.
No religion on earth teaches violence or killing of innocent people, he said, adding those responsible for attacks on religious places should be given exemplary punishment.
The Idara Amn-o-Insaf condemned the grenade attack on the International Protestant Church in Islamabad and killing of innocent worshippers.
In a statement, the executive secretary of the Idara, Ms Marian Samuel, said it was and act of terrorism.
She urged the government to immediately arrest those responsible for the abominable act and award them exemplary punishment.
Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro has condemned attack on the Church in Islamabad by unknown terrorists and expressed his grief over the loss of lives and injuries.
He said terrorists involved in the crime were anti-state, whose aim was to sabotage the peace efforts of the government.
The governor asked the officials as well as the citizens to jointly keep an eye on the anti-state elements and frustrate them from carrying out their nefarious designs.
