VEHARI, March 14: Three Lashkar-i-Jhangvi terrorists, one of them carrying Rs500,000 head money, were killed in an encounter with police on Wednesday night.

Vehari SSP Dr Jamil Ahmed told a press conference here on Thursday that Fiaz Ahmad Tarar, Javed Iqbal Rajpoot and Mohammad Amjad had been involved in several terrorist attacks and murders. Fiaz carried the head money, he added.

He said a city police station team had set up a picket on the Vehari-Khanewal Road. They signalled three motorcyclists who were going to Khanewal to stop. But they did not stop the motorcycle. The police team chased them. They opened fire on the police near Chak 180-EB. Police returned the fire and the three men were killed in the encounter.

SSP Ahmad said they had been identified as the Lashkar terrorists after their death.

A Kalashnikov, two pistols and press cards of an Urdu-language daily were recovered from their possession. Besides, a document containing names of some prominent personalities who were on hit list of the terrorists were also recovered.

The police found the address of proclaimed offender Munir Ahmad during the checking of the documents and raided his house in Chak 81-WB Thingi Colony on Thursday and arrested him. Four hand grenades, one rifle and 82 bullets were recovered from his possession.

The SSP said that the Lashkar men had murdered Vehari district Nazim’s uncle Ahmad Yar Khichi on Oct 27, 2001, Allama Nazir Ahmad in Oct 2001, and Dr Tanvir Shah in Feb, 2001.

He said the terrorists were close associates of Riaz Basra and Shakil Anwar.
