ISLAMABAD, March 14: Saudi authorities have buried 36 Pakistani nationals who expired in a tragic bus accident at Batha, Saudi Arabia.
The burial was conducted on March 9. However, the details of the buried people were given to the Overseas Pakistani Foundation (OPF) by the Saudi authorities on Thursday.
An official of the OPF told Dawn that the deceased Pakistanis were buried at Al-Hafoof by Saudi authorities with the assistance of Pakistan embassy, Riyadh, and Pakistani community in Al-Hafoof, after obtaining consent from their legal heirs, as they were beyond recognition and identification.
The bodies of remaining two deceased — Abdul Samad and Khalid Hussain Satti — have been transported to Pakistan after completion of formalities by Saudi authorities according to their law.
A bus carrying Pakistani expatriates, mostly working with the Air Force Cadet College, Al-Ain, UAE, met with a fatal accident in Batha, near UAE-Saudi border on Feb 13.
Ten injured Pakistanis were admitted at the King Fahd Hospital, Al-Hafoof. Majority of the deceased Pakistanis were retired technicians from the Pakistan Air Force (PAF), who were living in the UAE without their families and there was no woman or child travelling in the bus.
