Over 80 PPP leaders, workers arrested

KARACHI, March 14: Over 80 PPP workers, including some top leaders, were arrested by police on Thursday when they tried to take out a procession against the Thal Canal Project.

The PPP leaders had asked the workers to reach Bilawal House on Thursday morning to take out the procession against the canal project.

However, a large contingents of police had blocked all routes leading to the Bilawal House since early Thursday morning.

However, PPP leaders Nisar Khuhro, Nabeel Gabol, Taj Haider, Manzoor Wassan, Waja Karimdad, Fida Hussain and Shaikh Sanaullah managed to reach Bilawal House and tried to take out the procession.

The police resorted to baton charge and arrested all of them under the MPO.

Another group of PPP leaders and activists reached Quaidabad and took out a procession there. The participants of the procession managed to reach Ghaggar Phatak where almost all PPP leaders and activists were arrested.

When contacted by Dawn, a spokesman for the police on Thursday claimed that some 80 PPP men, including some leaders, had been arrested under the MPO, at Bilawal House, Quaidabad, and Ghaggar Phatak.

However, a PPP leader said that over a hundred PPP workers and leaders had been arrested.
