ISLAMABAD, March 14: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Thursday condemned the arrest of over 450 party workers and leaders in Sindh and termed it as a blatant manifestation of state terrorism.

Speaking at a press conference, PPP secretary-general Mian Raza Rabbani warned the government to immediately release all those arrested throughout the province otherwise the party would be compelled to take “appropriate action.”

The PPP Punjab president, Qasim Zia, PPP NWFP president Khawaja Muhammad Hoti, PPP Punjab secretary-general Rana Aftab and Nawaz Khokhar were also present at the Press conference.

The crackdown on a PPP’s peaceful rally against Thal Canal Project also reflected double standard of the regime and established beyond any iota of doubt that there were different laws for the PPP, he said.

Mr Rabbani pointed out that Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid-i- Azam), which he called King’s party had taken out rallies and held public meetings throughout the Sindh province but the government took no action against them.

He said the armed guards accompanying the leaders of King’s party had also resorted to firing in Larkana and their pictures had been carried by all the Sindh newspapers but even than the government took no action against them.

Till todate no FIR had been lodged against any leader or member of the King’s party who had flouted ban on carrying automatic arms and resorted to firing on unarmed civilians, he added.
