KHAIRPUR, March 14: The district Nazim, Khairpur, Ms Nafeesa Shah said that Sindhi journalists were playing an important role in the development of the province and creating awareness among the people.
She said this while talking to the journalists of Khairpur at a dinner hosted by her in their honour on Wednesday night.
She said that there should be research on Sindhi journalism.
She said that journalists who filed investigative reports played an important role in the media.
Ms Nafeesa disclosed that a historical society had been set up which would project and protect the historical and cultural heritage of Sindh like the Kot Diji Fort, Makli Tombs, etc.
She said that the district government, Khairpur, was working on a project to connect the districts of Larkana and Khairpur via a bridge over the Indus River and a feasibility report regarding it was being prepared.
BURNT TO DEATH: An elderly woman, Pathani Laghari (70), was burnt to death when a fire broke out in her house in the Jehan Khan Leghari village, Kingri Taluka, on late Wednesday night.
TWO HOUSES GUTTED: The houses of two men, M. Ali and Ghulam Hussain, were reduced to ashes in Shaikh Mohalla, Bozdar Wada, Mirwah Taluka, on Wednesday.
The cause of the fire could not be ascertained.
EIGHT INJURED: At least eight people were injured in a clash between two groups in the Moraro village, Mirwah Taluka, the other day.
The injured have been admitted to a local hospital.
The police arrested seven people. They were Datto, Salamat, A. Dino, Irshad, Yaqoob, Riaz and Irfan.
HUNGER STRIKE: The office bearers and workers of the Awami Tehrik, Khairpur, the other day observed token hunger strike at Katchehry Road, near the sessions court, against the construction of the Thal Canal.
They demanded that Hari courts be established so that their problems could be solved.
