9 teachers, two clerks sacked

VEHARI, March 13: Nine teachers at various primary schools and two clerks were suspended by the EDO (education) on Wednesday for prolonged absence from duty.

Local Executive District Officer (EDO) Mehar Bashir Ahmad paid surprise visit to several primary schools and sacked nine teachers for absence.

The teachers include Saeed Ahmad, Muhammad Illyas, Manzoor Husain and Abdul Khaliq, PTC of primary school, Chak 138/EB, Abdul Ghaffar Naveed, Tahir Husain (PTC) and Talib Husain (OT) of the Govern-ment Primary School, Chak 307/EB, Wazir Ahmad (PTC) of the Joiya Bungalow Primary School and Saifur Rahman Ghumman (PTC) of Mauza Rahim Shah.

During his visit to the Burewala deputy education officer (women) office, he sacked clerks Muhammad Riaz and Muhammad Aslam for absence.

DEATH SENTENCE: Local District and Sessions Judge Abdul Waheed Khan on Wednesday awarded death sentence to two persons in a murder case.

Convicts Nazar Husain and Taufiq Ahmad will have to pay a fine of Rs100,000 each. In case of default, they will have to undergo six months rigorous imprisonment each.

Meanwhile, the court has handed down life term to co-accused Fateh Muhammad who did not appear before the judge.

The prosecution said the convicts killed Dr Sikandar Khan in 1995 on the suspicion of his illicit relations with the wife of one of them.

INJURED: An eight-member gang on Tuesday night injured six people and made off with cash, gold ornaments and valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees in Karampur locality.

Reports said the dacoits stormed into Muhammad Siddique Arain’s house, bagged Rs50,000 in cash, jewellery and valuables and fled after beating the inmates on resistance.

Siddique, his wife Jindo, daughter Shamshad and son Subhan were taken to a hospital.

The gang took away Rs50,000 in cash, jewellery and valuables at gunpoint from Muhammad Saleem’s house in the same locality.

Minutes later, they burst into Manzoor Bhatti’s house and collected Rs37,000 in cash and gold ornaments worth Rs40,000. They shot at the inmates on resistance and escaped with booty.

Bhatti and his brother Muhammad Yaseen sustained injuries and were admitted to a hospital.

The gang also deprived two truck drivers of Rs20,000 in cash on Vehari-Karampur Road.
