LAHORE, March 11: City district Nazim Amer Mahmood raised the wheat procurement target for Lahore on Monday from 42,000 tonnes to 50,000 tonnes.

The decision was made at a meeting held here to finalize the plans for procurement of the wheat from April 15. Wheat would be purchased from growers as well as wholesalers.

Four committees consisting of Agriculture Department officers, food inspectors, farmers’ representatives, union council Nazims and patwaris were constituted for the procurement of wheat from the district.

The meeting also decided to set up wheat procurement centres at Kahna, Barki, Raiwind and Manga by April 1 and supply empty bags. Besides the Food Department, flour mills and others would be allowed to purchase wheat. No restrictions are being imposed on inter-district movement of wheat.

Participants of the meeting were informed that wheat had been sown on over 156,000 acres in the district. The yield was expected to be over 150,000 tonnes. The meeting was attended by the executive district officers (Revenue and Agriculture) and the Food Department deputy director.

FAIR: The Nazim also participated in a spring fair for special children at the Children Complex. He stressed the need for concerted efforts to integrate the special children as useful members of the society. District Naib Nazim Farooq Amjad Mir and Town Nazim Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf were also present on the occasion.
