155 uplift schemes okayed for Haripur


PESAHWAR, March 10: The district planning & development (P&D) department, Haripur, has approved as many as 155 development schemes since the district government assumed power in August last year.

The total cost of the schemes, including four mega projects in communications, health and education sectors, has been estimated at Rs471.199 million.

Of the 155 schemes identified by the district Nazim, the works & services department has already completed 39 projects, while completion other schemes is expected by June.

The schemes were approved under the Khushhal Pakistan Programme (KPP), the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) and Social Action Programme (SAP).

In order to rehabilitate the drought-affected areas, the district government has proposed 79 schemes for potable water supply, irrigation/water management and in the communications sector under the Drought Emergency Relief Assistant (DERA) programme at an estimated cost of Rs259.87 millions.

The federal government is considering and working out these schemes, which are expected to be approved within a couple of months.

The district Nazim has ordered the local finance department to disburse an amount of Rs55.44 millions equally to 44 union councils of the district. The UCs will spend this amount at their own for providing the civic amenities in their areas.

According to the KPP district secretary and a P&D officer, Nisar Ahmed, in three different phases of the KPP, the district development committee (DDC), headed by the district Nazim, has approved 109 development projects, which will cost Rs125.359 millions. Out of these, 39 schemes have been completed and work on 29 others is in progress, while 41 projects, approved recently by the DDC, will be launched shortly.

The schemes would be completed by June, said Zia ud Din, the executive district officer of the W&S department.

The district government had approved five more schemes for providing furniture and building additional rooms in certain schools of the district, said the DCO, Capt (retd) Jehanzeb Khan.—NNI
