Water shortage destroys crops

Published March 7, 2002

MIRPURKHAS, March 6: A number of distributaries of the Mithrao canal had been lying dry for last one and half month due to the rotation programme.

The affected growers of the Mithrao division, Haji Ali Murad Shar, Liaquat Ali and others, said it while talking to local journalists on Wednesday.

They accused the executive engineer of Mithrao division for providing available water to some distributaries in the division after taking huge amount of bribe rendering a large number of distributaries closed.

They further alleged that the XEN was avoiding sitting at the office because he could not face the growers and thousands of villagers who had been deprived of drinking water.

Crops have already been destroyed due to non-availability of water.

MAN ARRESTED: The town police arrested a man, Kanjimal Meghwar, here on Wednesday.
