SIALKOT, March 6: Two goats were killed while six houses badly damaged by Indian shelling on Pakistani border villages in Chhumb Joriyaan sector on Wednesday.

The Indian Border Security Force continued intensive firing on villages in Bajwat, Chaprar, Sucheetgarh, Harpal, Charwa, Jammu, Akhnoor and Shakargarh sectors of Sialkot Working boundary.

Official sources told Dawn that the sowing of sunflower and watermelon crops remained suspended in the border villages for sixth consecutive day due to Indian firing.

They confirmed that the Chenab Rangers thwarted an Indian attempt of fencing near Jammu sector. A long ammunition vehicle of Indian army was also destroyed by the Chenab Rangers when they retaliated.

Meanwhile, according to the Indian radio, Akashwani, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence chairman Madan Lal Khurana has said that Indian army had laid mines over 25,000 acres of land in occupied Jammu and Kashmir and was using 45,000 acres of additional land for other defence purposes. In all the Indian state had offered 71,100 acres of land to the Indian army.

Mr Khurana said the Indian J&K government suffered a loss of Rs125.20 million due to the use of land for military purposes. The people of districts Jammu, Kathura, Rajouri and Poonch have also suffered huge losses.

However, the government was yet to submit detailed report of losses suffered due to deployment of Indian forces on the borders, Mr Khurana said.

MUSLIMS’ GENOCIDE: The Sialkot District Bar Association staged a protest demonstration against the genocide of Muslims by the extremist Hindus in India.

Led by its president M. Azhar Chaudhry, the protesting lawyers condemned the killings and urged UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan and US president George Bush to intervene and save Muslims from the Hindu terrorists.

The association unanimously passed resolutions against India urging its government to stop killing and destruction of properties of Muslims.

Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Forum central chairman Dr Zahid Ghani Dar said the BJP government under the garb of secularism wanted to impose Hinduism on Muslims minority.

He urged the UN to arrest Bal Thakery and other Hindu extremists and try them for genocide.
