Security in border areas to be tightened

By Our Staff Correspondent

QUETTA, March 5: The Balochistan government has decided to enhance security in the border areas, including Chaman, to uphold the rule of law in the province.

The decision in this connection was taken in the provincial cabinet meeting held here on Tuesday and presided over by Governor Justice (retd) Amirul Mulk Mengal.

The cabinet reviewed the overall law and order situation and described it as satisfactory.

“The rule of law would be insured in the province,” the cabinet decided and discussed extending better facilities to law enforcement agencies.

Discussing educational matters the cabinet decided that lady teachers would be appointed in the far-flung areas of the province on a 3-year contract up to primary level; in the absence of lady teachers male teachers would be engaged.

“These jobs would only be for designated areas and would not be transferable,” cabinet decided and observed that it will help in improving the standard and provide jobs to women in the remote areas of Balochistan.

The cabinet also decided that lady doctors would be recruited on a 3-year contract for rural areas.

The cabinet approved a plan regarding the supply of quality cotton seed to the growers on half rate to encourage cotton cultivation in the province.

The cabinet expressed satisfaction over last year’s results of cotton cultivation; more cotton was being grown this year - 100,000 acres.

The cabinet has also okayed a plan to sell Balochistan House in Clifton, Karachi, to the Sindh government. It was constructed by former chief minister Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi in 1995, but it is no more in the use of the Balochistan government.

It was also decided that more rooms be added to Balochistan House situated on main Shahrae Faisal, Karachi.

The cabinet also decided to lease out the marble unit of the industry department of Balochistan which has been abandoned for the last many years.

All provincial ministers, chief secretary, and secretaries of the concerned departments also attended the meeting.
