Cullinan recalled for second Test
CAPE TOWN, March 4: South Africa recalled batsman Daryll Cullinan to the side on Monday as the selectors made sweeping changes for the second Test against Australia here later this week.
Unorthodox left-arm spinner Paul Adams is also recalled and fast bowler Dewald Pretorius has been handed a first Test cap.
Shaun Pollock returns to captain the side after missing the first Test with a side strain.
Cullinan, who turned 35 Monday, was widely believed to have played his last Test against the West Indies in Jamaica last year.
But he returns to the side after a half-century against the Australians for South Africa ‘A’ in Port Elizabeth last week.
The stylish right-hander has played 70 Tests for South Africa, scoring 4554 runs at an average of 44.21, including 14 centuries.
The recall for Adams comes as something of a surprise as the spinner has been a consistent but unspectacular performer in domestic competition this year, taking 20 wickets in five first class matches. Like Cullinan, his last Test was against the West Indies in Jamaica.
