ISLAMABAD, March 4: A high-level delegation of the People’s Liberation Army led by General Xiong Guangkai deputy chief of General Staff will be visiting Pakistan from March 6 to 13.
The purpose of the visit is to hold first round of talks on “Sino-Pak Defence and Secu-rity”-related issues.
Gen Xiong Guangkai will meet the president, chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committees, services chiefs, defence secretary and senior officers of Pakistan armed forces.
Gen Guangkai joined the service in 1956. Worked in the Ministry of National Defence from 1960 to 1970. He served in the office of Defence Attache and later on as deputy defence attache in the Chinese embassy in Germany.
He was vice bureau chief in the Ministry of National Defence at the beginning of 1980 and later served as deputy chief of Intelligence Department, General Staff Headquarters, People’s Liberation Army.
In 1988 he became chief of Intelligence Department and was promoted to the rank of Major-General.
He was assistant to Chief of General Staff and later on served as deputy chief of General Staff, People’s Liberation Army as Lieutenant-General in 1990. —APP
