TOBA TEK SINGH, March 4: The Kamalia Tehsil Municipal Council expressed on Monday concern over the exploitation of cultivators by the management of a sugar mills.
Most members informed a council meeting that the Kamalia Sugar Mills was purchasing sugarcane from the farmers through middlemen at much lower rates than the government’s fixed price of Rs40 per 40 kilogrammes.
They also complained that transporters were overcharging passengers on Kamalia-Chichawatni, Pirmahal-Bhussi and Kamalia-Mamoon Kanjan roads.
They demanded immediate action against the mills management, owners of buses and wagons.
PLEA TO PR, PTCL: The District Council urged the Pakistan Railways authorities on Monday to restore the express train from Faisalabad to Multan.
Naib Nazim Haji Ghulam Rabbani presided over the council meeting.
Through a resolution, the council expressed concern over the suspension of the Multan Express and demanded immediate withdrawal of the decision.
The resolution also demanded that two express trains should be introduced from Shorkot cantonment to Lahore — one via Toba and Faisalabad and the other via Kamalia and Jaranwala section.
The meeting also condemned the railways for occupying Teku Park which was built with Rs3 million funds of the citizens. It urged the District Nazim to intervene and ask the railways to allot on lease the park either to the union council concerned or the tehsil municipal administration.
Through another resolution, the meeting urged the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL) to include Toba Tek Singh district in its Ufone mobile service range areas.
It said that a large number of businessmen and citizens were willing to get Ufone connections.
The council, through another resolution, urged the Lahore High Court chief justice to set up a bench at Faisalabad.
CYCLIST KILLED: A man was killed in a road accident on Rajan-Faisalabad Road, some 20 kilometres from here, on Monday.
Umer Draz Khan was on his way to Chak No 260 GB on his bicycle when a speeding wagon (RNH 2295) hit him. He died on the spot.
DACOITY: A house in Chak No 361 GB was looted on Sunday night.
Three dacoits forced their entry into the house of Ghulam Ali and held up all the family members. They collected cash, gold ornaments and other valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees and escaped.
AUCTION ORDERED: A Faisalabad banking court has ordered auction of a dairy products factory of Gojra.
The owners of the factory owed Rs2.7 million to the Muslim Commercial Bank.
An MCB official said on Monday that the bank had filed suit against the factory and court ordered the auction of building, machinery and land of the factory.
BANK BRANCH CLOSED: The Chak No 291 GB Lahorian Wala branch of the National Bank has been closed down with immediate effect.
All account holders of the branch had been directed to contact the NBP Rajana branch.
