FAISALABAD, March 4: The Pakistan People’s Party will field its own candidates for all national and provincial assembly seats in the general elections.
This was stated by Punjab PPP secretary-general Rana Aftab Ahmad and divisional coordinator Raja Riaz while speaking to office-bearers of divisional, district and city organizations and other allied wings of the party here on Monday.
Rana Aftab said the party high command under the supervision of chairperson Benazir Bhutto was giving final touches to its election manifesto.
He said the party leadership had sought applications from interested candidates for awarding tickets. All applications would be scrutinized by parliamentary boards of the party on the basis of their loyalty, popularity and influence in their constituency, he said.
He said computerized election cells would be set up at all divisional headquarters of the party for reviewing election arrangements and providing information to party leaders and workers about election policy of the PPP.
He hoped in the next general elections, the PPP would give a crushing defeat to the party claiming massive support of the masses.
Rana Aftab also briefed party leaders and workers about a meeting with Ms Benazir Bhutto in Dubai last week. He said Ms Bhutto would reach Pakistan and contest elections from her native town. However, the date and station of arrival had, so far, not been finalized, he said.
The PPP leader demanded the government not to create hurdles in the release of Asif Zardari on bail. He also demanded that all the arrested religious workers and activists should also be released.
BASANT: The Faisalabad Kite Association has announced that Basant will be observed on March 8 because people had failed to fly kites on March 1 due to inclement weather.
In a statement, association office-bearers said the people engaged in preparing string and kites also suffered a loss on March 1 due to drizzle and cloudy weather.
