LAHORE, March 3: Four-year-old bay colt King Fisher proved his worth by winning feature event of the 21st Lahore Winter Meeting in style at the Racecourse Sunday.

This Larkana Plate class IV & V combined handicap race, the sixth and last event of the day, was run over the middle distance of seven furlongs.

King Fisher beat the improving bay mare Run Way Lady to second spot by a narrow margin of one-and-a-half lengths. Bay horse Half Love finished third, one-and-a-three quarters lengths further behind after nosing out Royal Soul to fourth position. Only 14 ran after the last-minute withdrawal of Golden Mission from the race.

The winner was piloted by jockey Aamar Parvez and trained by Amjad Ali II. He clocked one minute 27 3/5 seconds on the grass track of the Lahore Race Club (LRC).

Credit goes to jockey Aamar Parvez, who rode the winner in waiting style. He kept King Fisher at fifth spot in the early part of the race only to charge at right moment after the home bend.

Earlier, four-year-old bay filly Fancy Light put up a much improved performance during fourth race to make amends for her defeat in her last outing and win by a neck in a close contest.

The filly defied a top-weight handicap at nine stone eight pounds and resolutely challenged the front-running grey filly Blu’s Wendy in last of the six furlongs of the race. Chestnut Golden Road finished third, another three lengths behind while grey gelding Martial Law occupied fourth berth after being pipped at the finishing post by narrow margin of a neck.

The stewards had to cancel second race of the afternoon after a false start. Out of the 15 starters, 12 took the start which the starter later adjudged as the “false” one, signalling the red flag.

Three horses including, fancied bay colt In Command did not take the start. Unmindful of the happening, their riders completed the race in which bay gelding Right Side finished first. While the race was still in progress, the start was announced on the public address system as false . The event was declared null and void.
