Clerks threaten to swarm streets: Retrenchment

By Our Staff Correspondent

FAISALABAD, March 3: The All-Pakistan Clerks Association has threatened that it will launch a countrywide protest movement in case any low-paid employee was removed from service under the retrenchment policy.

Presiding over a meeting here on Sunday, APCA divisional president Ahmad Nawaz said the families of low-paid employees had already been facing problems due to meagre financial resources. He alleged some bureaucrats were planning to cut the number of clerks in government and semi-government departments to recoup financial deficit. But on the other hand, top ranking government officials were getting high salaries besides other benefits.

He demanded President Musharraf to increase clerks’ salaries by at least 50 per cent.

PML-QA: The Pakistan Muslim League-QA will start its election campaign from Faisalabad by holding a workers’ convention on March 14.

This was stated by PML-QA district president Nasir Ali, city president Qamar Zaman, women’s wing president Kulsoom Shahnaz and other office-bearers while speaking at a press conference here on Sunday.

PML leaders said the convention scheduled to be held at the Crescent Model High School would be addressed by party leaders, including Pervez Elahi, Arshad Khan Lodhi, Humayun Akhtar and Begum Naseem Lodhi.

LOOTED: Two highwaymen looted Rs172,500 in cash from a union council Nazim near Aminpur Bangla village here on Sunday.

Rana Faqir Husain and his friend, Jameel, were on their way after collecting Rs172,500 from one of their business partners from Aminpur Bangla when they were intercepted by two masked motorcyclists. The bandits snatched cash from them and fled.
