KARACHI, March 2: Shab-e-Noor, a half-bred filly from Flaming Arrow out of Aa Sania, on song for her third victory on the trot, starts off as our day’s best when the Winter Gymkhana Meeting gets under way at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.
Already with two splendid wins under her belt, Shab-e-Noor will be participating with seven other runners going over the distance of six furlongs in the sixth race, in the seven event programme.
The main challenge should come from M. Zafar’s game chestnut horse Ray Of Light and Sapno Ki Rani.
The first four races will be contested over the sprinting distance of five furlongs, while the last three will be run over a furlong more.
The first race begins at 1.00 p.m.
Another runner that should not lose tomorrow (Sunday) is the thoroughbred bay mare Bella participating in a small field of seven runners in the concluding event.
After her splendid triumph two weeks ago against Fast Enough, Bella should register another victory for her owner Mohammad Rafiq Siddiqui, challenged throughout by Sandra’s Love and Feasible.
In the opener, Baby Tabassum finishing third last week behind Law Of Nature and Whitney Houston, should make amends and win the opener with a good lad astride, chased home over the five furlong sprint by Shining Rock, Money Make Music and Royal Springs.
The aging bay gelding Law Of Nature, is once again fancied in our columns to pick up the spoils in the following event. Top weight Aatish Fishan should finish a close second, followed home by Tanveer-e-Sehar and Chhotto.
In the third race of the afternoon, Edward Chou’s bay filly Guarantee, has the speed to sprint home past the winning post ahead of Shahdad Star, Zabyan and Striker.
Owner-trainer Iftikhar Ali’s chestnut colt Aziz Love should make it two winners in a row in the fourth race. However, he will have to break into a sweat to overcome the likes of Deniro, My Darling and Blue’s Night.
If all goes well, Iftikhar could have another winner in the following event. With only seven runners participating over six furlongs, his six-year-old gelding Hamza Saheb is fancied in these columns to register a hat trick. Baby Face, finishing second two lengths behind Ray Of Light under jockey Ahmed last week, should provide the main challenge along with Queen Of Hearts and Lover’s Life.
