ANKARA, March 1: Police in the Turkish western province of Izmir on Friday arrested a group of 56 illegal immigrants en route for Greece, the Tur-kish news agency Anatolie reported.
The group, including 48 Pakistanis, four Indians and four Bangladeshis, were caught near Doganbey, on the Turkish coast.
Anatolie reported the group had told police they had each paid about 2,500 dollars for passage to Greece.
Numerous Asian and African would-be immigrants, hoping to reach Europe illegally are rounded up on a daily basis in Turkey, which lies on a major human-smuggling route to Europe. —AFP
