KARACHI, March 1: The voters’ list released by the Pakistan Medical Association PMA (Karachi chapter) for its elections has been declared null and void in a court decision by civil judge, Shahid Pervaiz Memon.
He directed the PMA to prepare the proper voters’ list within two months according to the format given by the court.
The finance secretary of the PMA Karachi had filed a suit against the PMA president Dr Tipu Sultan and the general secretary Dr Habibur Rehman Soomro, accusing them of number of misdoings including the keeping of all financial records from him and not permitting him to use his powers as finance secretary.
Meanwhile, another case was filed against the present PMA management for improperly conducting the elections as the 23-paged voters’ list released by the returning officer was not alphabetical in order and did not contain the names of the voters fathers, husbands and their address.
The court, while announcing the decision in one case, directed the PMA-Karachi chapter to prepare a proper voters’ list within two months time and announcing a fresh date for doctors to get their memberships renewed .
The court also directed the PMA to prepare the new voters’ list according to the standard format which must be in alphabetical order containing all the required details about the voters. It further directed the PMA to announce fresh elections schedule after the completion of the voters’ list . The court directed Dr Moonis, the returning officer for the recent elections and candidate for the post of executive member, to choose between his post and his candidacy.
Vice-president of the PMA Karachi, Dr Naseer Baluch, has also moved an application to the court to become a party in the case pertaining to the accusations of embezzlements filed against the president of the PMA Karachi.—PPI
