HYDERABAD, Feb 28: The City Taluka Council, through a resolution passed here on Thursday, called upon the chairman, National Reconstruction Bureau (NRB), to establish city government in Hyderabad.
The resolution was tabled by Abdul Waheed Qureshi Ajmeri, who was supported by Illahi Bux Azhar Sheikh, Roshan Chohan and Sabiha Raheem.
The resolution expressed grave concern over the alleged disparity in the allocation of funds among three councils of City, Latifabad and Qasimabad and said that in order to solve the problems of the city, following abolition of the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, the establishment of city government had become imperative. It said that immediate measures should be taken in this connection.
The house also passed an out of agenda resolution of Mohammad Anwar Chundrigar, demanding powers for Naib Nazims of union councils.
It said that the sanitation staff should be given in the control of Naib Nazims and they should be able to issue certificates for their salaries.
The house also approved a ceiling of monthly telephone of Rs5,000 for the City Taluka Nazim.
Ms Rana Siddiqui withdrew her resolution, calling for precautionary measures in the city keeping in view the reports about belligerency on the international borders and war hysteria created by way of huge deployment of forces by India.
The council also approved the contract of sanitation and conservancy tax for 2001-2002 at Rs572,000 following its approval by Nazim Moinuddin Shaikh.
The house also adopted a resolution of Ms Rubina Abbasi, calling for powers for Naib Nazims and councillors.
She said that in the devolution plan the people cast single vote for Nazim and Naib Nazim but powers were only delegated to Nazims.
Convenor Abdul Qadeer Naghar adjourned the house sine die.
UNIVERSITY: The syndicate, University of Sindh, Jamshoro, has approved the building plan for the construction of higher technical centralised resource laboratory and extension of the building for Dr. M.A. Kazi Institute of Chemistry and Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science, reports our bureau.
The syndicate, at its 123rd meeting held here on Thursday, discussed a 17-point agenda relating to the development of higher education and promotion of research studies in different disciplines of the university.
The syndicate decided that henceforth the university would itself look after the affairs of the Allama I.I. Kazi Memorial Society, Jamshoro campus, and Elsa Kazi, Hyderabad campus.
