ISLAMABAD, Feb 25: Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed to reopen a border post at Ghulam Khan for establishing the third route between the two countries, an official said.

The Ghulam Khan post, 30km of the Miran Shah town, was closed down following the Sept 11 terrorist attacks on the US.

Pakistan has offered the Afghan interim administration training facilities for developing human resources in different fields, including banking, foreign services and telecommunications.

This offer was made by Foreign Minister Abdul Sattar to the deputy chairman and finance minister of the Afghan interim administration, Hadayat Amin Arsala.

Mr Arsala, who arrived here on Monday morning on a three-day official visit, will call on President Gen Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday.

The Afghan minister held talks with Mr Sattar and Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz.

Mr Sattar reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to fully participate in the Afghanistan reconstruction programme. Pakistan has already announced that it would contribute $100 million to the reconstruction of the war-ravaged country.

A team of Pakistani diplomats led by Consulate General Ikramullah Masood had arrived in Jalalabad, and expected to resume the mission’s activities within two days, a Foreign Office source said.

The Pakistani Embassy in Kabul had been entertaining visa applications only of government officials and foreign nationals working in non-governmental and international aid agencies, he added.
