FAISALABAD, Feb 19: Police registered a case here on Tuesday against seven Jamaat-i-Islami leaders, including its district and city presidents, for delivering provocative speeches during a rally.
Sub-inspector Khalid Mehmood of the security branch in his report claimed that JI’s district president Zafar Husain, city president Mehboobuz Zaman and others leaders — Azeem Randhawa, Fareed Piracha, Malik Muhammad Din, Farooq Aftab and Ghulam Abbas — delivered provocative speeches against the government.
The area police registered a case against all the nominated persons under Section 16 of the Maintenance of Public Ordinance. No arrest has so far been made.
Meanwhile, the protest movement launched by the Jamaat-i-Islami continued on the sixth consecutive day on Tuesday.
Dozens of Jamaat leaders and workers staged a protest rally at the Clock Tower intersection and raised slogans against the government. They demanded the Supreme Court to order the government for early release of Qazi Husain Ahmad.
ARRESTED: Police arrested eight drug traffickers from various parts of the city on Monday night.
Those arrested are Shahid Husain, Zahid, Akram, Abbad, Kashif, Waqar, Adil and Ilyas.
