Market committee elections

By Our Correspondent

SAHIWAL, Feb 19: The fate of the market committees was decided at a district council meeting by convener district Naib Nazim Malik Muhammad Yar Dhakoo while members of the opposition walked out here on Tuesday.

The house cancelled the election of Chaudhry Pervez Qayyum and Atta Muhammad Sahoo to be the chairman and vice-chairman of the Sahiwal Market Committee for being the supported candidates of former provincial minister Muhammad Arshad Khan Lodhi. The house approved the re-election for the offices.

District Council members Malik Dhakoo, Alam Sher Dadra, Rana Tanveer Ahmad, Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf and Rao Mashkoor alleged district Nazim Rai Hassan Nawaz had adopted dictatorial behaviour with them.

The ruling part members threatened the members in support of the district Nazim.

Rao Mashkoor Ahmad and Rana Tanveer Ahmad alleged Pervez Qayyum was the agent of the former provincial minister and had accumulated wealth by hook or by crook.

Led by Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf, the opposition members walked out of the house.

The house, later, unanimously approved the elections of chairman and vice-chairman of the Chichawatni and Kassowal market committees. Rana Riaz Ahmad was elected chairman while Muhammad Iqbal vice-chairman in Chichawatni while Malik Faisal Langrial was elected chairman and Chaudhry Nazir Ahmad vice-chairman in Kassowal.

The house also approved an expenditure of Rs3.164 million for education and allowances for the members and union council Nazims.
