Iftikhar opens Torkham Gate

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, Feb 18: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah on Monday inaugurated the newly-constructed Torkham Gate along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in the Khyber Agency.

Provincial Minister Aminullah Gandapur and Khyber Agency political agent Dr Fida Wazir accompanied the governor during the visit to the border town of Torkham.

The gate supported by a grilled border wall has been completed at a cost of Rs 2.5 million, says an official statement. The governor on this occasion directed to increase the width of the gate, and urged effective and improved border security and monitoring system.

Mr Iftikhar also met the Afghan officials standing on the other side of the border. Talking to them, the governor termed the Pak-Afghan friendship a unique example of brotherhood and fraternity between the two nations. He hoped that these relations would be further strengthened when peace returned to Afghanistan.
