SHARJAH (UAE), Feb 16: The Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board, Lt Gen Tauqir Zia, is in favour of retaining coach Mudassar Nazar and skipper Waqar Younis till the World Cup in South Africa early next year.
“I think they are doing a marvellous job and I am pleased with their performance here”, the PCB chairman said, referring to the ongoing series agaist West Indies on neutral venue here.
Pakistan made a clean sweep of the two Tests and are already a 2-0 victors of the three-game day-night limited overs series.
Tauqir, here to chair the Asian Cricket Council meeting stressed it’s also better to identify 20-25 players for the World Cup right now so that “they are saved from wearing out and to enable them to concentrate on the big event (World Cup)”.
He also took exception to the trend of playing musical chairs with the team’s opening pair. “Rather, I will have preferred to see left-hander Taufiq Umer play in the one dayers against West Indies.”
Taufiq figured in the two Tests but had to sit out the two one-dayers so far.—APP
