Allocation for shrines repair embezzled

By Afzal Nasir

KASUR, Feb 14: A federal agency has started a probe into the alleged embezzlement of funds allocated to the construction and repair of three city shrines.

The Auqaf department, Lahore, had undertaken the construction, repair, and renovation work of shrines of Hazrat Baba Panney Shah with a cost of Rs8 million, Hazrat Baba Kamal Chishti with Rs2.7 million and Hazrat Baba Bulleh Shah with Rs2 million.

It was alleged in a plaint that Auqaf engineers had made over-payments to contractors, used substandard material and showed incomplete work as complete after taking heavy bribes.

CASH LOOTED: Six unidentified dacoits on Thursday looted cash and ornaments worth Rs250,000 from a house in a nearby Khudian village.

Armed outlaws barged into the house of Dr Muhammad Aslam, held up the inmates and tied them with a rope. Later, they collected cash and ornaments and decamped with the booty.

Police are going into the matter.

CRUSHED: A cyclist was crushed to death on Thursday by a speeding bus (LOK-1450) near Habibabad, Pattoki.

Bashir Ahmad was coming from Nehr Jorian when he met a fatal accident near Karamabad.

Relevant police have registered a case.
