Molasses export up

Published February 13, 2002

KARACHI, Feb 12: The export of molasses has increased by 108 per cent to $37 million on higher demand during the current fiscal year, exporters said on Tuesday.

Secretary Terminal Association of Pakistan (molasses export wing) Akhtar Sultan said that the demand for molasses is higher and Pakistan has good sugarcane crop this year.

He pointed out that Pakistan is one of the largest exporters of molasses and exports can further increase by raising cane production in the country.

He said Pakistan will get better export prices this year as the demand is high. He said the prices are ranging between $40 to $45 per ton.

Pakistan exported 992,946 tons of molasses during July-January 2001-2002 against 549,485 tons worth $18.045 million during the same period last year.—APP
