Published February 10, 2002

NOWSHERA, Feb 9: Angry students of a private school in Pabbi near here attacked Wapda staffers and damaged its vehicle to stop them from disconnecting power supply to the school.

Police said staffers of Wapda’s Pabbi office visited Cenna Public School to disconnect its power supply as the school had failed to pay arrears amounting to Rs46,000. The principal of the school was not around but the vice-principal and the head clerk accompanied by schoolchildren attacked the Wapda staffers with batons and stones. They also stoned the Wapda vehicle and smashed its windowpanes.

A spokesman for the Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (Pesco) said that the school management had been given prior notice and warning to pay its dues. He said that Pesco had also won a suit filed by the school management against the electricity arrears.

The police on the complaint of Wapda staff have registered a case against the son of the school’s principal, the vice-principal and head clerk for obstructing the law, assaulting government employees and damaging official vehicle.
