Clarification

Published February 9, 2002

ISLAMABAD, Feb 8: Apropos of a news item that appeared in Dawn on Thursday headlined “NRB envisages 26 provinces, repeal of 13th Amendment” the National Reconstruction Bureau said in a clarification that the NRB, being a think tank, reviews various wide-ranging suggestions and ideas as a routine.

The NRB said that information regarding the repeal of the 13th Amendment is a mere speculation on a sensitive constitutional matter. It said the contents of the whole news item did not correctly represent the NRB’s views.

The NRB said that its consultant Khalid Fareed Khan had been misquoted about the increase in the number of provinces. No such paper has been produced by the NRB.

Our Staff Reporter adds: Dawn is in possession of the proposed presentation prepared by the NRB.

Dawn stands by its report.
