LAHORE, Feb 7: Two teachers of the Punjab University Mass Communication Department have allegedly sexually harassed a girl student of the MA mass communication replica evening programme.

The victim has reportedly submitted a written complaint to the vice-chancellor against the two teachers —- Ahsan Akhtar Naz and Mustafa Kamal Pasha.

It was learnt that the two teachers had taken some students of the replica evening programme to a newspaper forum. From there they took a female student in their car to have a meal.

The student alleged in her complaint that she was sexually harassed by the two teachers before she was dropped at the department late in the evening.

Sources claimed that the student had also submitted another complaint to the vice-chancellor that one of the two teachers also called her and tried to pressure her.

Official sources said that the vice-chancellor had constituted a four-member committee to inquire into the matter.

When contacted, a senior university official said that he did not want to comment or be quoted on the issue.

When contacted, mass communication department chairman Dr Shafiq Jullandhry said that the student had submitted her complaint directly to the vice-chancellor.

Answering a question, he said that he had stopped Mr Naz and Mr Pasha from taking evening classes.

He, however, claimed that relieving the two teachers of taking evening classes was not because of the ‘incident’.

Mr Jullandhry said that the vice-chancellor was also critical of teachers’ attitude. At a department function, students had openly complained against the two teachers. Even during the teachers’ evaluation process at the department, he said students had written complaints against them.

When contacted, a member of the inquiry committee, dean Dr Mohammad Naeem, said that they had not submitted their findings as it was yet to be typed.

He declined to disclose the decision of the committee and asked this reporter to ask the university administration about the details.
