LARKANA, Feb 3: The offices of the Larkana Municipal Corporation (LMC) are being shifted to the suburban area of Larkana city to facilitate a particular business community, it was reliably learnt on Sunday.
The building, where the LMC offices are presently situated, was first constructed in 1885. The Municipal Committee Larkana office was set up there with the formation of Larkana as a district in 1901.
The present site covers an area of 10 acres.
Most people including the employees of the LMC itself are surprised at the decision of the Larkana town Nazim, Nazir Ahmad Shaikh, to shift the offices of the LMC to the partially-abandoned Public Health Department offices, near the Sachal Sarmast residential colony, without providing a logical reason for doing so.
The Municipal employees union and various trade union organizations have taken exception to the decision and are likely to oppose it.
Mr Shaikh is feeling uncomfortable in having the old building, whose foundation stone was laid by the late Sir Shahnawaz Khan Bhutto, demolished.
