HYDERABAD: JSM supports crackdown on extremists

Bureau Report

HYDERABAD, Feb 3: The chairman of the Jeay Sindh Mahaz (J) Abdul Khaliq Junejo, has said that Sindh has been converted into a colony of Punjab, which has taken over the economic resources of Sindh.

He said this while speaking to the party workers at the press club here on Sunday.

The function was held in connection with the birthday anniversary of late G.M. Syed, the founder of the Jeay Sindh Movement.

He said that the rulers after committing excesses against Sindh continuously for 50 years had no right to govern over Sindh and added that the people of Sindh should be given the right to decide whether they wanted to remain with the federation or not.

Mr Junejo said that late G.M. Syed and the friends of Sindh had been of the considered opinion that religion should be separated from politics but the rulers had rejected this point of view.

He strongly supported the steps taken against fundamentalism and added that had these steps been taken 50 years back, Pakistan would not have faced the present situation.

He lashed out at the role of the feudal lords who never raised their finger when the people of Sindh were being sent to jails for propounding the cause of the Sindhi nation.

Speaking on the occasion, Hashim Khoso demanded the right of self-determination for the people of Sindh, Balochistan and NWFP to get rid of the hegemony of Punjab.

Sindh Democratic Party chief Yousuf Leghari pointed out that in 1940 the population of the Sindhi people was 97 per cent but now it was being said that it was only 51 per cent.

He said out of 12.4 million acres of Sindh land, 4.2 million acres was in possession of non-Sindhis. There were only seven Sindhi speaking judges in the Sindh High Court.
