KARACHI, Jan 31: The Karachi Electric Supply Corporation has cut off power supply to National Sports Training and Coaching Centre while the Sui Southern Gas Company and the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board have also issued disconnection notices for non-payment of utility bills.
Sources said that KESC dues amounting to Rs23,53,721 are the liability of Sindh government as officials of law enforcement agencies stayed there many years. On the orders of then deputy commissioner, District East, and it was decided that all expenditures pertaining to stay of LEA personnel at NSTCC would be borne by the Sindh government.
It was learnt that NSTCC owes Rs456,500 to SSGC while conservancy charges payable by NSTCC to the KW&SB stand at Rs363,330 and water tax Rs2,061,000.
When PPI contacted NSTCC administration about the dilemma they admitted that power had been disconnected a few days back but refused to comment further and added that the matter had been referred to the director general of the Pakistan Sports Board.
Meanwhile, the joint secretary of the Pakistan Amateur Boxing Federation, Ali Akbar Shah, appealed to the Sindh governor and Sindh Corps Commander to issue orders for restoration of power connection of NSTCC as it was affecting the national training camp of boxers.—PPI
