Four Aces cruises to easy victory

By Aftab Gilani

LAHORE, Jan 30: The odds-on favourite bay mare Four  Aces cruised to an easy victory in feature event of the mid-week Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse Wednesday.

As the starting gates sprung open, Four Aces took lead and clinched the race, without allowing anyone to overtake her.  She beat the bay horse Blu’s Wendy. That horse looked to have run a calculated second  being content with four lengths  behind. Chestnut gelding Aao  Pyar Se and roan colt Puma  Star completed the frame. Only ten ran for this sixth-and last race of the day.

The programme started with the fancied Saroop Ji, partnered by riding boy A. Aziz, winning the race from bay colt Zabardust by seven lengths. Saroop Ji was backed at 70 to 100 down to 40 to 100.

In the next event, Chestnut horse Mon Soon made amends  for his last outing’s defeat. He beat fancied Gold Wings, whose rider Khurrum Sheikh did not ride in accordance with his reputation.

Sent postwards at four to one, dark-bay mare Kenjaab won the third race, beating bay horse Nijinsky by about four lengths.

Fancied bay colt Beena Roy Baby stormed home to win in fourth race of the afternoon to give some respite to the punters from the two shocks in earlier races.

The fifth race was won by the long-shot Russian Pet in a race in which no other rider looked interested to contest even for the second spot.

The riding boy Qamar Zaman stole lime-light of the day by bringing home a brace of winners through Mon Soon and Kenjaab in the second and  third events, respectively  and  the both at attractive odds. Three favourites obliged the punters in a card of six events.
