Wasa initiates seven new projects

FAISALABAD, Jan 30: The Water and Sanitation Agency has started seven new projects of water supply and drainage in various parts of the city.

Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday, the Wasa managing director said the projects would cost Rs44.3 million. He said contracts had been awarded to reputed firms, and they had been asked to complete the same within the stipulated period.

The MD said Rs12.1 million would be spent on laying 37,679-foot long sewer in D-Type Colony. The scheme would be completed within 10 months. The new sewer would also be laid in Sadiqabad, Bismillah Town, Millat Road, Mehmoodabad and Saeed Colony by spending Rs7.3 million. An amount of Rs5.8 million would be spent for the revival of the sewerage system in Farooqabad, Batala Colony, Ashrafabad, Zulfiqar Colony and Hajiabad.

He said new pipelines for water supply and drainage would also be laid in residential areas of Nawabanwala, Nisar Colony, Bishmillah Town, Usman Town, Mughalpura, Ayub Colony, Ghausiabad, Noorpur and Gulistan Colony by spending Rs20 million.

He made an appeal to consumers to pay their utility bills in time.

MATERNITY HOSPITAL: The work on the first phase of the Red Crescent Society’s maternity hospital is expected to be completed shortly at a cost of Rs13.1 million.

This was explained during a meeting of the Red Crescent Society here on Wednesday. EDO (Revenue) Mian Kamaluddin presided over the meeting attended among others by RCS honorary secretary Dr Bashir Ahmed and project director Haji Abdur Rashid.

Under the first phase, a 28-bed general ward, four private rooms, diagnostic block, operation theatre, X-ray, ECG and ultrasound rooms would be constructed.

Talking to newsmen here on Wednesday, JI district Amir Sardar Zafar Hussain and city amir Mehboobuz Zaman Butt alleged the present military rulers were playing in the hands of America.

They said Pakistan had been created in the name of Islam for which thousands of Muslims had scarified their lives. The government’s decision was not only against the basic ideology of the country but also inimical to the federation, they said.

JI leaders also castigated the government step to appoint military officers for the assistance of judicial officers, adding that it was a clear violation of the Constitution.

The JI, they said, would thwart all such government attempts to prolong its rule.

To a question, they said a comprehensive policy was being conceived in consultation with other political and religious parties to draw a line of action against the government policies.

They alleged that NGOs were spreading vulgarity and obscenity through the government run media and mujras were being telecast on TV openly.

They asked the government to release all the arrested religious and political leaders and workers particularly Qazi Hussain Ahmad in the larger national interest.
