FAISALABAD, Jan 29: The Punjab government has decided to lift ban on appointments in the education department and recruit over 10,000 teachers, it was learnt.
Sources told this correspondent on Tuesday that the governor had already approved a plan for the appointment of PTC, EST and SSTs through direct recruitment system in BS-16 and through the Punjab Public Service Commission in BS-17.
“The government is also contemplating to grant move-over and promotion to the subject specialists under a special programme. Thousands of promotion cases of teachers, lying pending for the last many years, had been processed during last couple of months,” the sources said.
The provincial government has also decided to set up over three dozen institutions by spending Rs640 million for imparting technical training to male and female students in various parts of the province.
An education department official said here on Tuesday that all work in this regard had been completed and a programme would be announced soon. Under the programme, district Nazims would be asked to identify occupations and trades for imparting training to students of their areas.
Life term: Local Additional District and Sessions Judge Manzoor Husain Dogar on Tuesday awarded life term to five policemen for a death in their custody.
According to details, former municipal councillor Muhammad Yousaf’s son Arbab Yousaf (18) was arrested by the Gulberg police from his house on May 4, 1998. The officials did not produce the youth before the court of law and tortured him to death.
Those booked were Gulberg SHO Sub-inspector Sibtain Shah, Assistant Sub-inspector Muhammad Ashraf, constables Rafiqullah, Falaksher and Zulfiqar. They were terminated from the service.
Former police official Sibtain Shah reportedly approached Yousaf many times for the reconciliation but the latter refused to do so.
FOUND DEAD: The watchman of a house was found murdered under mysterious circumstances in Madina Town here on Monday night.
Police said some unknown people entered the house of Muhammad Shafi in his absence on Monday night and murdered watchman Saifullah Khan with some sharp-edged weapon.
Further investigations are under way.
ARRESTED: The owner of a private school was arrested on the orders of a banking court from Abdullahpur on Tuesday.
Abdul Jaleel had obtained a loan from a bank and failed to return it. A banking court issued warrants for the arrest of Jaleel. A court bailiff with the help of area police arrested the defaulter.
LOTTERY: Police claimed to have arrested 10 people while selling lottery tickets identical to prize bond numbers from various parts of the city on Tuesday.
Mahmood Ali, Javed, Shakeel, Manzoor, Sultan, Amir, Ibrar, Muhammad, Sajjad and Sabir were sent to jail after registration of cases.
