HYDERABAD: Family welfare centres to be set up

HYDERABAD, Jan 29: The Sindh secretary for Population Welfare, Ashfaque Ahmed Memon, on Monday inaugurated a one-day family clinic camp organized by the District Population Welfare office, Hyderabad, at the Model Family Clinic, Murshidabad, SITE, Hyderabad, and Liaquat University Hospital, city branch.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that there was a rapid growth in population in the country with the result that the economic conditions and other civic problems were also on the increase.

Mr Memon said that due to this, the health of both mother and child was being badly affected and education and training of children was becoming difficult.

He said that the President had fixed targets to accelerate efforts to control and reduce the population growth from 2.4 per cent to 1.9 per cent.

Mr Memon said that a series of family welfare camps had been started and two camps were being set up at Hyderabad.

He added that due to motivational efforts, the mothers were coming to family clinics and family welfare centres and programme of free camps had been chalked out.

He added that two to four such camps would be organized in each district of the province.

He stressed upon the doctors, workers and staff of population welfare department to work hard and get better results in the larger interest of the country.

The secretary was informed that ladies from different towns and villages of Hyderabad District had attended the camp and more than 400 cases had been registered.

He was informed that the operations would be performed and arrangements for free transportation had been made.

Various pharmaceutical companies had arranged for medicines for the patients operated in the camps.

Provincial secretary for population welfare appreciated the efforts of officers and staff and hoped that motivational efforts would continue.
