KARACHI: Court seeks report on sealing of mosque

KARACHI, Jan 28: Justice Wahid Bux Brohi of the Sindh High court directed on Monday police to submit the exact position regarding sealing of a mosque, by Jan 30.

The judge was hearing a petition filed by Mohammed Azam, muezzin of Bismillah masjid, Dhobi compound, Jamila Street, Saeed Manzil, Karachi.

The judge earlier heard Choudhry M. Rafique Rajorvi, assistant advocate- general Sindh. The AAG submitted before the judge that a counter-affidavit would be filed highlighting the actual position so that an interim order might be passed for unsealing of the mosque.

DSP Taufique Khan and inspector Zahid Hussain, appearing before the judge, submitted that the mosque had been sealed on the orders of the judicial magistrate concerned.

The judge, after these statements by the state counsel and police officials, directed them to inform the court in writing about the factual position within the shortest possible time.

The court, then, put off further hearing of the case till Wednesday.

The plaintiff has prayed the court to declare the sealing of the mosque illegal, one-sided and against the injunctions of Islam.—APP
