Three Pakistani expatriates in England U-19 team
CHRISTCHURCH, Jan 25: Three top players in current under 19 side playing in the Youth World Cup are of Pakistani parentage who migrated to United Kingdom.
Bilal Shafayat, whose father migrated to Britain in mid seventies as an all-rounder who made his first class debut for Nottinghamshire against Middlesex at the age of 16-year at Trent Bridge and made 26 and 72 in that match. He made an unbeaten 45 against Nepal and 5 not against Papua New Guinea.
Diminutive Bilal’s father hails from Jhelum in Punjab while lanky fast medium bowler Nadeem Malik’s family comes from Deena in Punjab.
Nadeem, made his debut for Notts last year taking 2-49 against Worcestershire.
Opening batsman Kadeer Ali whose grand parents belong to Mirpur (Azad Kashmir) played for Worcestershire and his enterprising knock of 73 off 48 balls studded with 14 boundaries setup an easy six wicket for England against PNG.—APP
