Taimur and Atif share honours
LAHORE, Jan 25: Al-Baraka Islamic Bank beat Remounts Whites 10-4 and Remounts Orange downed Diamond Paints 15-14 to move into final of the January Cup polo Friday.
The final between Al-Baraka Bank and Remounts Orange will be held on Sunday.
Taimur Mawaz Khan scored four and Malik Atif Yar Tiwana three goals to help bankers to victory.
Al-Baraka Bank were on a goal-scoring spree while Remounts Whites could strike only four times during the match.
Taimur Mawaz Khan “Tony” scored a field goal on a pass from Malik Atif Yar Tiwana. Atif himself scored a field goal after a long chase and Taimur crowned a team effort to give bankers 3-0 lead.
Second chukker was dominated by Remounts Whites as Captain Haseeb scored a field goal and Khurshid converted a spot penalty near the goalpost. Remounts Whites reduced the margin 2-3 at conclusion of the second chukker.
Manzoor Shah scored a field goal for Remounts Whites with a lofted shot at start of the third chukker. Malik Asif Yar Tiwana scored on a 60 yards penalty-hit.
Taimur scored a field goal on a long pass from Asif. Atif also scored a field goal for Al-Baraka Bank. Khurshid scored Remounts Whites’ fourth goal on a field effort to reduce the lead of Al-Baraka Bank to 4-6 at the end of the third chukker.
Fourth chukker was completely dominated by Al-Baraka Bank which scored four goals. Asif scored on another 60 yards penalty- hit.
Taimur scored his fourth field goal. Atif cashed on a pass from Faaiz Rahim Khan to score his third goal while Faaiz Rahim himself scored Al-Baraka Bank’s tenth goal with a back-hander.

In four chukkers of the 8-chukker match, Remounts Orange had taken 8-7 lead on last Wednesday.
In the remaining four chukkers, Remounts Orange scored another seven goals on Friday to take its tally to 15 goals. Gerardo Mazzini scored four goals.
Diamond Paints had advantage of four goals on handicap and had scored four goals during the first four chukkers.
On Friday, Diamond Paints put in another four goals and was beaten in the match by a narrow margin of one goal 14-15.
Sufi Muhammad Aamir scored a field goal and thereafter converted a spot penalty near the goalpost for Remounts Orange. Gerardo Mazzini converted a 30 yards penalty-hit before the fifth chukker ended.
At start of sixth chukker, Gerardo Collardin (six-goal handicapper from Argentina) scored a field goal for Diamond Paints. Ahmad Khan scored both his field goals for Remounts Orange.
Mazzini scored on a 60 yards penalty-hit and also scored a field goal. Before the conclusion of the sixth chukker, Gerardo Collardin scored on a 120 yards penalty-hit with a long lofted hit.
Gerardo Collardin scored on a 60 yards penalty-hit at start of seventh chukker. Mazzini scored a field goal before the seventh chukker ended.
Diamond Paints struck thrice during the eight chukker but the effort fell a little short of requirement. Lt.-Col.
Isfandyar Pataudi converted a 40 yards penalty-hit. Umer Sadik and Mir Shoaib Ahmad scored a field goal, each. However, when the match concluded, Remounts Orange won 15-14.
