HUB, Jan 25: Balochistan Governor Amirul Mulk Mengal said on Friday that Tehsil and union councils will be provided funds directly by the provincial government under the devolution plan.

Speaking at a gathering of local bodies’ representatives of Lasbela district at Gadani rest house, he said the government previously provided funds to the district bodies but they were yet to be received at a grassroots level.

Governor Mengal also distributed lease document of more than 95,000 hectare land among 150 landless farmers of the district. He said the provincial and the federal governments were convinced that landless farmers should be provided land so that they could play their part in the progress of the country and earn for their families.

He said the government wanted to improve the quality of education and health facilities with the help of Japan.

He announced that boys and girls intermediate colleges in Hub and a college for boys at Uthal would be set up by the next month. He said recruitment for the colleges would begin soon.

He said a small dam would be constructed at Winder and ordered that its feasibility report should be prepared as soon as possible.

Replying to questions raised by the local bodies’ representatives, the governor announced regularizing of Kutcha Abadis of Sonmiani and Daam.

He said funds being provided by the federal government would be distributed among the district governments and they would be responsible to spend the funds according to their requirements.

He said recruitment for grade-I to grade-IV government employees should be made from the concerned district.

He said Rs85 million had been allocated for revamping the district hospitals in the province. He said all the district hospitals would be provided women specialists, surgeons and anaesthetists.

He said all districts of the province had been allocated funds and expressed his hope that those would be used for development.

Earlier, Governor Mengal inaugurated the Gadani Central Jail and visited different parts of the prison. He asked the prisoners about the facilities being provided by the jail authorities to them.

He also ordered release of a prisoner reportedly being kept there without charges.

Provincial Industries Minister Mohammed Ali Jogezai, Food and Fisheries Minister Mohammed Qasim Achakzai, officials and local government representatives were also present.
