UK asks US to hand over 3 prisoners

LONDON, Jan 24: The British government has asked the USA to hand over the three UK terrorism suspects held at Cuba’s Camp X-Ray to face justice at home.

The surprise call was made by British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw, who said it would be “far preferable” if the three Britons, who are among 144 suspected al Qaeda and Taliban prisoners held in at Guantanamo Bay, were returned to Britain.

Mr Straw’s comments came at a time when the US is being criticised for mistreating prisoners at Camp X-Ray.
